Joe grew up in Southeastern Wisconsin. He attended St. Norbert College in De Pere, Wisconsin, where he double-majored in English and History. He went on to attend Vermont Law School, where he gained valuable experience representing lower income people at the school’s legal clinic. His passion for representing working-class people led him to work at Iowa Legal Aid for two years, and then to spend three years representing injured workers in workers’ compensation cases in Waterloo, Iowa. He is particularly proud of a case that held that part of John Deere’s incentive program should be included as part of weekly wages for workers’ compensation purposes, which resulted in workers across John Deere’s facilities routinely receiving thousands of dollars more in compensation.
In his free time, Joe likes to spend time hiking with his dog, travelling, and cheering on the Green Bay Packers, Milwaukee Brewers, and Milwaukee Bucks.
