Jonathan Bedwell is an attorney at our Birmingham, Alabama Blue Lake office. He focuses his practice on personal injury law, primarily handling cases involving motor vehicle accidents, slip and fall accidents, and dog bites. Prior to joining Mike Slocumb Law Firm, Mr. Bedwell started his legal career working for a non-profit, where he helped defend low-income residents of Alabama against evictions, foreclosures, and debt collection. It was there that he learned how beneficial it can be for people who are not familiar with the law to have someone knowledgeable walk them through the process. He has also served as a Grants and Contracts Officer for the University of Alabama at Birmingham and has experience as a contract attorney in private practice.
Mr. Bedwell grew up in a town called Opelika in the Auburn, Alabama area. He attended Auburn University, graduating with a B.A. in Economics. He then went on to earn his law degree from Samford University’s Cumberland School of Law, simultaneously attending Samford University’s Brock School of Business in a joint-degree program. Mr. Bedwell received both his J.D. and his Master of Business Administration. While in law school, he served as vice president of the Federalist Society Samford Student Chapter and interned at Legal Services Alabama.
Mr. Bedwell approaches his cases with the goal of putting his clients in better positions than they would be without his representation. He relates to his clients by trying to find some commonality with each person’s situation. Many of the people he represents are blue collar workers and, coming from that background himself, he is able to relate on a personal level. He is always honest with his clients, rather than simply telling them what they want to hear, but he also assures them that he will work as hard as he can to get them the maximum compensation available.
Mr. Bedwell is admitted to the Alabama State Bar, the Georgia State Bar, and the U.S. District Court for the Northern District of Alabama, the Middle District of Alabama, and the Northern District of Georgia.
In addition to his professional practice, Mr. Bedwell is an active member of the local community. He attends church and stays involved in his kids’ youth sports activities. He has also participated in numerous mission trips to Central America, working with teams that provide construction and medical services to small local churches and their surrounding communities.
